Back on earth, it is a few hours later and Inez has brought in backup. They survey the scene and find Sean by the altar, with a dead body on it. They ID the body as that of Sara Thomas Plant, a 22 year old hitchhiking her way to Texas to see Jerry Cantrell play (that was learned later on). Inez walks in and sees Sean.

Inez says, “Sean? You all right man?"

Sean doesn’t respond.

Inez says, “Hey, get a stretcher over here. Put him into an ambulance."

While the forensics team gets prints from all over the place, Inez stands over Sara's dead body.

Inez says, “Poor girl..."

A few minutes pass and then a paramedic runs towards Inez.

The Medic says, “Lt, Det. Napier wants to talk to you."

Seeing as how he couldn’t get a peep outta him a few minutes ago, Inez walks fast towards the ambulances. Sean is sitting up, wearing a blanket.

Inez says, “You ok there Sean?"
Sean says, “Yea, I'm ok."
Inez says, “What happened here?"
Sean looks around. "Send them away and I'll tell you."

Inez sends the medics away and anyone else who is around. Sean then takes the next 5-10 minutes explaining everything that went down. After Sean is done, Inez scratches his chin.

Inez says, “You know we can't report what you said there right?"
Sean says, “Yeah..."
Inez says, “I'll contact some people and they'll deal with this. Anyways why don't you go home? You look like shit, kid."
Sean says, “Sounds good to me."

Inez says, “One of my guys will bring you back home."

Inez pauses.

Inez says, “Call us when you're feeling better, Sean."
Sean says, “I will."

Inez instructs one of his guys to give Sean a ride home and they do. 3 hours later, Sean is back home.

ALIVE

Inez is just having his morning coffee when the phone rings.

Inez says, “Lt. Inez. Cantrell Police station."
Sean says, “It's me, Inez."
Inez says, “How are you feeling Sean?"
Sean says, “Doin' ok. I'm coming in to the station about noon to make an announcement."
Inez says, “Ok, we'll be here."

Noon comes and in walks Sean. When he started the O'Conner case, he had let his hair grow out and roughly had a beard. Now he has a crewcut and has shaved off his facial hair. Inez looks up.

Inez says, “Damn Sean. Cleaned yourself up?"
Sean says, “Yea. I've had a few weeks to gather my thoughts and I’ve come to a decision."
Inez says, “And what is it?"
Sean says, “I'm quitting. With having three failed marriages so far, and now the O’Conner case, I need to restart my life."
Inez says, “You'll lose your chance for a pension, Sean. Just take an extended break. I'm sure Sgt. Lachman will understand."
Sean says, “Either way, I'll be gone for a while."
Inez says, “Take it easy, kid."

Inez pats Sean on the back and decides to also give him a hug.

Inez says, “Keep me up to date, Sean."

Sean nods and walks over to Sherri's desk. Overhearing it all, she gets up and hugs Sean.

Sean says, “I'll miss you, Sherri."
Sherri says, “I'll miss you too, hon."

Sherri gives him a peck on his cheek. Sean walks out of the station and drives back home. As he pulls in the driveway, he feels in his coat pocket just to check it and feels a cross. Just holding it for a moment, he drives to the Born of A Broken Man church. He walks into the church and sees Fr. Dalt kneeling and praying. As soon as Fr. Dalt hears Sean, he crosses himself and stands up.

Dalt says, “Well, hello Det. Napier. I hope things went well."
Sean says, “Well, Fr. Dalt. Things took a turn for the worse. I can't really confide much to you about him but I think he's praying for his own soul now."
Dalt says, “Det. Napier, in that case, let's pray for his soul too."

Moments go by and Dalt and Sean get up.

Dalt says, “Nice seeing you again, Det. Napier."
Sean says, “Please, call me Sean. And sometime soon, expect to see me here pretty often. I think God’s been calling to me for sometime now."
Dalt says, “We welcome you with open arms, Sean."
Sean says, “Thanks. Bye Father Dalt."

Sean leaves the church and drives home to get a good night sleep. He enters his house and goes for his lounge chair. As he is about to grab the remote, he remembers something. He searches in his pocket for something else and out comes the piece of paper that Rosie wrote on. He looks at the info and ponders.

Total darkness. A small amount of light seeps into this area and shows a black man on the ground. A crow flies onto the ground and pecks at the black man.

"Lajon"

Lajon wakes up and sees that Skull Cowboy again.

Lajon says, “Who are you?"
The Skull Cowboy says, “I'm known by many names but you can call me the Skull Cowboy. I was sent to you by higher powers to tell you that you can go and be with Francesca."
Lajon says, “What higher powers?"
The Skull Cowboy says, “Let's make a deal. Either you go and find out who these higher powers are or go and meet your love. Your choice."
Lajon says, “To be with Francesca, means more to me then anything in the world."
The Skull Cowboy says, “Walk towards the light, Lajon."

As Lajon enters the light, he disappears and so does the Skull Cowboy. The area darkens to black.
