UNHOLY REVELATIONS

They arrive at O'Conner's address and pull into the driveway. They get out of Sean's car and walk towards the front door. He takes out his gun and prepares to enter the house. As Sean is about to knock on the door, Lajon goes in front of him and kicks down the door.

Sean says, “So much for the subtle way..."
Lajon says, “I don't feel like wasting time, do you?"

As Lajon walks in first to take in any first shots, he signals that its clear and Sean goes in. Sean walks on as Lajon checks out the front room. As Lajon is about to pick up a newspaper from a few weeks ago, Sean yells for him.

Sean screams, “WHAT IN THE HELL!!?Hey Lajon!"

Lajon rushes to where Sean is and finds him in the bathroom. In front of the bathtub, is a bloody, cutup dog.

Sean says, “Fuck...I'm going to call this in..."

Sean walks away and turns on his phone to call for backup while Lajon looks at the corpse. After Sean is done, he looks at Lajon.

Lajon says, “I'll meet up with you later."

Within a second’s notice, Lajon is gone.

Momentarily, backup has arrived. Police officers seal off the scene, with forensics investigating the dog and putting him in a coroner's bag. Inez walks in to survey the scene.

Inez says, “Damn...that's some fucked up shit...you doing ok Sean?"
Sean says, “I'm doing ok."

They look at the scene for a few more minutes then Inez speaks up.

Inez says, “I've got a lead I want to follow up on for this...may help. In the meantime Sean, maybe you oughta go back to the station and see if there is anything that you can find out about this."

Sean agrees. "Catch you later..."

As Inez nods back, Sean leaves the scene and drives back to the station. He enters the building and goes straight to his desk. As he is about to rest for a few minutes, Lajon appears on Sean's desk.

Lajon says, “You know, that crime scene reminded me of some stuff I had heard about in Mexico and shit. I had overheard a few people talking about it."
Annoyed, Sean says, “Are you sure no one saw you come in?"
Lajon says, “Chill Sean. Sherri took a washroom break."

The phone rings and Sean picks it up.

Inez says, “Hey Sean."
Sean says, “Hey. What's up?"
Inez says, “Well, I looked at the crime scene and I think it was done in accordance with Santeria. There’s an article online. I'm sending you an e-mail with the link to it."

Sean goes to his e-mail inbox, opens the e-mail and clicks on the link.

The Matamoros Incident:

In early 1989, the bodies of over a dozen murdered men were found in Matamoros, Mexico, close to the Texas border. A media frenzy resulted in which the killings were blamed on Satanists, Witches, Voodoo priests, or Santerians. Everybody seemed to have a different theory. After the lurid headlines died down and the police investigation concluded, the murders were found to be orchestrated by an individual hired by a criminal gang of drug runners for protection from the police. The gang members happened to be followers of a variety of religious groups common to the area including Christianity, Palo Mayombe and Santeria. But no link was ever found between their faith and their drug running or murderous practices. The immediate cause was that the leader of the gang required the members to watch a Hollywood movie called The Believers a total of 14 times. That movie took elements of the Santerian faith, and added concepts foreign to the religion, including human sacrifice. If a single influencing cause needs to be assigned to the murder, it should be that movie.

Sean says, “Holy sh..."
Inez says, “Yea..."

Sean thinks about this and knows what he has to do next.

Sean says, “Inez, I'm going down there."
Inez says, “Not by yourself, Sean. It's too dangerous."
Sean says, “Robert, I have to. I may be able to stop it."
Inez says, “With what? They could kill you down there, Sean."
Sean says, “Just meet me down there with backup. I'll at least gather information."
Inez says, “I don't like this."
Sean says, “I know you don't. Just get your guys together."

Sean hangs up the phone.

Lajon says, “Time to fly?"

Sean nods and both of them leave, towards Mexico.
