Chapter 4: No Excuses
December

"Hey Jon, wanna go with Andy and me and see a movie?"
Jon responds, “We... Don’t have the money."
Nona says, “We don't need money. Sometimes in the colder months, Ms. Taylor from the library invites Andy to watch a movie with her. The movie they are watching is "Sweet November". And since I told Andy it was a chick movie, he asked if we wanted to go with."
Jon says, “It sounds... Sappy..."
Nona says, “Oh, c'mon. It'll be a good movie. How about I sit next to you so that it won't be so bad?"
Jon, still not sure, says, “I guess it sounds ok."
Nona says, “Well, c'mon then. Get off your ass, sugah."

Nona and Jon go with Andrew to the Broadus St. Library. As they walk in, Ms. Taylor notices the additional guests.

Ms. Taylor says, “Are these your friends?"
Andrew grins and says, “Something like that. Don't worry about them, Ree."
Ms. Taylor says, “If you say so."

Ms. Taylor & Gang go downstairs, where Jon and Nona had watched the Vietnam movies. As they arrive downstairs, Jon notices two large items in the far-left corner. As Ms. Taylor goes over there and pulls off the coverings, Nona sees that there are two love seats there.

Andrew says, “Where'd you get these from?"
Ms. Taylor says, “A friend of mine bought some new furniture and let me keep her old stuff. She had a couch and two love seats. The only thing I could fit in my apartment is the couch."
Ms. Taylor then looks at Andrew and Jon. "Could you two boys move that over here?"
Jon says, “No problem."

Jon and Andrew move the love seats to the designated position. From there, Andrew signals to place one love seat closer to the TV, the one that Andrew and Ms. Taylor will sit in. They do so and Andrew and Ms. Taylor sit down. They wait for Nona and Jon to sit down to start the movie.

About halfway through the movie and in the bathtub scene, Nona takes her hand and holds onto Jon's hand. As they reach the scene where Keanu Reeves character shows off his love by making each month November, Jon looks at Nona. As he does this, Nona turns into the woman he has feelings for, even if the woman is still unidentifiable. As Nona feels the glare from Jon, she turns and sees Jon looking into her eyes. Jon sees a past love in Nona while Nona lets her feelings about Jon go to her head. As Jon puts his hand on Nona's cheek, they pull together until both lips are touching and they kiss. As the movie ends, Ms. Taylor and Andrew turn around to see Jon and Nona lock lips. Ms. Taylor has a smile on her face and Andrew signals for silence. They go upstairs to leave the two alone and to talk. After ten minutes, Jon and Nona come back to reality.

Nona says, “Where is everybody?"
Jon replies, “I think they're upstairs."
Nona says, “I don't think we should keep them waiting."

As Nona gets up and continues to hold Jon's hand, she leads Jon upstairs to find Andrew and Ms. Taylor chit chatting.

Andrew says, “I hope you two lovebirds enjoyed yourselves."
Going into both a defensive and offensive stance, Nona says, “And what about you two?"
Andrew says, “We'll do ours in private."

Jon considers how long they've been downstairs for.

Jon says, “Hey, shouldn't we be heading back?"
Ms. Taylor says, “Do you guys really have to?"
Andrew says, “I'm sorry, Ree. But to make up for that...."

Andrew goes over the Ms. Taylor and tips her downwards and kisses her.

Nona says, “I thought you do yours in private?"
Andrew says, “I changed my mind, missy. Happens when you’re my age. Now, we really do have to go, my darling."
Demri says, “Don't take too long to come back, sweetie."
Andrew says, “I won't. Bye."

And all three of them leave the library. As they are a few minutes away from the library, Nona speaks up.

Nona says, “So you love her alot, eh Andy?"
Andrew says, “Well, I have been seeing her for a long time before you came around."
Nona says, “You two make a cute couple."
Andrew says, “So do you two. Hey, I know where to grab some free burgers."
