September

"Hey Jon, could you help me here?"

Jon walks up to Nona and boosts her into the dumpster.

Jon says, “You didn't have to go in there. I could have gone in."
Nona chuckles. "But you miss all the good nutritional stuff Jon. We need to stay healthy."
Jon quips back, “While we're still alive, right Nona?"
Nona grins and speaks. "You givin' me attitude, Johnny boy? Cause I've dealt with "bad boys" before. And they got their due."
Jon replies, “Ok ok, I'll chill. Find anything yet?"
Nona says, “Nope. Help me down, will ya?"
As Jon helps Nona down, she says, “I'm hungry."
Jon says, “I know. We'll find something soon. Hey, isn't that Andrew down there?"
Nona says, “Well, I'll be damned. Hey Andy, what're you doing over there?"
Andrew replies, “Same thing you guys are doing. Looking for dinner. Holy Shit! Do you guys see this?"

Jon and Nona run to where to Andrew is to see what's getting him excited.

Andrew excitedly says, “Someone left 24 pieces of chicken here. They must have forgotten it. And in that case, let's get out of here before they remember."

They run back to their shelter and look around. Andrew gets out the grill he constructed and gets out the matches he stole a few days ago. While Andrew is getting dinner ready, Nona and Jon talk.

Nona says, “So, do you remember anything yet?"
Jon says, “Nothing that I can grasp. I've been having some dreams lately, though nothing I can cling to…aside from the nice tingling sensation."
Nona says, “What tingling sensation?"
Jon responds, “Can't tell. It just happens."
Nona sighs. "You'll find out soon. I'm sure you will."

Nona puts her hands on his to show him that she's there.

Nona says, “I'll be here for you when you need it."

Jon feels reassurance and something else towards Nona as her hand is still on his.

Jon says, “I just wish that at least I knew who I was."
Nona says, “Just keep trying."
Nona gives him a peck on the cheek and says, “Anyways, let's go and see how Andy is doing."

They walk over to Andrew, who is warming up the grill for supper.

Nona says, “So how long will it be, Andy?"
Andrew responds, “I'd say probably about an hour. Why don't you and Jon go for a walk?"
Nona replies, “Ok."
Jon says, “Sure. Nothing like a good walk to keep the appetite going."

Jon and Nona go for a walk.

Nona says, “So Jon, have you ever thought about your past or anything like what you did at all?"
Jon says, “Just some sparse random thoughts..."

Nona quickly grabs Jon's hand for reassurance, but at that moment, Jon experiences quick flashes of memory. He let's go of Nona's hand as his mind replays a scene between him and a woman.

The woman says, “Remember what I told you last Christmas baby?"
The man replies, “Yeah, that we were eternal soulmates. I love you..."

It disappears and Jon returns to reality.

Concerned, Nona asks, “Jon? Are you ok?"
Jon replies, “I'm ok. It was nothing."
Nona says, “Mind if we go into the nearby park? It looks like we both could use some fresh air."
Jon says, “Sure."

Jon and Nona walk to Staley Park and proceed to sit down on a bench.

Jon says, “Nona, may I ask you something?"
Nona says, “Go ahead."
Jon says, “Since we've met, I've just wanted to know more about you..."
Nona says, “Well, I don't want to get too personal but all I can say is it was some family problems. And I wanted to try something new for once..."
Jon says, “Well, I hope it's a good choice."

Nona thinks on that for a moment.

Nona says, “We probably should head back. I'm getting the vibe that Andy's almost done with making supper."
Jon says, “It's a good idea not to keep you waiting, eh?"

Jon and Nona walk back to their homeless shelter.

Andrew says, “Hey guys, you better come and get a piece while it’s hot and besides, we don't have any plates and can't afford any."

Nona grabs a leg and munches down on it with a responding moan.

Andrew says, “Sounds like you’re enjoying it a lot, Nona."
Nona replies, “You have no idea, Andy."
Jon jokingly says, “Remember Nona, take breaths."
Nona says, “Do you guys know how long it's been since I've had something this good?"
Andrew says, “Yes, I know. About a month ago. Bless that local pizzeria."

Andrew and Jon proceed to start eating when Jon just stares at his food for a few seconds.

Andrew says, “You ok, Jon?"
Jon says, “Yea...I guess I just don't feel that hungry. You guys don't mind do you?"
Nona says, “Well, you don't have to eat now. Maybe if you watch my vivacious lips eat, you'll be extra hungry later."

Jon looks at her and blushes a little bit

Jon says, “Nona, uh..."
Andrew says, “Hey Jon, mind hearing a little story?"
Nona shakes her head and mutters something along the lines of, “...Always tellin' that war story."

Jon quickly glances at Nona and then faces towards Andrew.

Jon says, “Go ahead."
Andrew says, “Ever heard of Vietnam?"
Jon says, “Yeah, from school."

Andrew snickers, an uneasy one almost.

Andrew says, “After the war, stuff just turned for the worse. Vietnam…nothing more then a matter of pride, a long war lasting until ‘75. Because the government wanted to protect it's interests."
Nona says, “Sounds like you're bitter about it, Andy. My Momma told me it happened because it was what needed to be done, the only way that it could be done."
Andrew says, “Well, hon, you would have seen different if you were there. It was a very violent, gruesome, and mostly useless war. I can remember losing a lot of friends there. Heads shot off...Soldiers disemboweled...."
Starting to feel a little queasy, Nona replies, "...Andrew, let's get off the subject here. Would you mind starting a fire here? Jon looks like he's shivering."
Jon says, “I'm not cold. I just felt a cold tingle when you mentioned Vietnam."
Andrew says, “Hey Jon, mind grabbing a dozen sticks from over there for me so I can start it?"
Jon says, “No problem."

Jon grabs the firewood and places it next to Andrew. Andrew takes the firewood and puts it in a pile, takes some matches and lights the fire. After a few moments, the fire is lit and going moderately. Nona sits down next to Jon and rests her head on Jon's shoulder. She puts her hands on Jon's.

Nona says, “Do you ever wonder what's in the future, Jon?"
Jon says, “Answers...All I want..."
